MARKETING STANDARDS

Distribution
Direct Distribution - Sale of goods or services directly to the customer, with no intermediaries
Indirect Distribution - Sales of goods or services to the customer through one or more intermediaries
Channel Members
Manufacturer - A person or company that makes goods for sale
Wholesaler - A person or company that sells goods in large quantities at low prices, typically to retailers
Retailer - A person or business that sells goods to the public in relatively small quantities for use or consumption rather than for resale
Distribution Intensity
Exclusive - Distributing products to one intermediary in a selected geographic area
Selective - Distributing products to a few intermediaries in a selected geographic area
Intensive - Distributing products to all suitable intermediaries to receive full coverage
Invoice - An itemized list of goods that includes prices, terms of sales, total, taxes and fees, and amount due
Receiving Merchandise
Receiving - Companies get what is necessary to run the business and often requires the business to record what was received
Checking - An administrative function that involves checking of the quality, quantity, and condition of the incoming goods followed by their proper storage
Marking - With information including sale price must be performed once goods are received and checked
Transportation
Motor - Includes trucking and is the main source of transportation is inexpensive, and is used intra city (within city) more than intercity (between cities, multiple)
Rail - Used intracity and is used to transport heavy equipment, weather does not affect this form of transportation
Water - International shipping products, used to ship heavy and non perishable items
Air - Fastest form of transportation used for time sensitive items, also the most expensive form of transportation
Warehousing
Distribution Centers - A warehouse designed to speed delivery of goods to minimize storage costs
Public Warehousing - Storage and handling facilities offered to any individual or company that will pay for its use
Private Warehousing - A facility designed to meet specific needs of the owner
